The film is the final part of Varma’s trilogy on the underworld, and deals with real-life incidents that happened in the late ‘90s.

It traces the life of gangster Chhota Rajan after he engages in a bitter war with Dawood Ibrahim.

As Rajan was being gunned down by Dawood’s sharp shooters in Bangkok, he was whisked away to safety by an Indian intelligence agency. The agency, deliberately saved Rajan and his gang, as they need a powerful gang to oppose Dawood’s men. The film shows the war between the gangs of Rajan and Dawood, and how they try to emerge as the underworld kingpin.

The character similar to Rajan was played by Vivek Oberoi in Company, while in Contract, it will be played by Upendra Limaye.

Contract also exposes the tie-up between the underworld and terrorist organisations.
